St. Anthony Children’s Village

St. Anthony Children’s Village in Ndola, Zambia, which is run by Dominican Sisters, provides care for about 100 infants and children, the majority born to mothers who have died of AIDS.  Many of the children are HIV positive.  As the AIDS crisis subsides, fewer babies are being born to infected mothers; however, St. Anthony’s is also home to over 66 children and young adults with special needs, many having cerebral palsy.  They regularly receive rehabilitative care from a physical therapist.  St. Anthony’s provides shelter, nutrition, health care and access to treatment, as well as pre-school education.  Older children, who are healthy enough, are sent to nearby secondary schools.
